Major renovation and restoration work 2018
What started off as some pointing work that was required by the quinquennial report, suddenly turned into a £500,000 roller coaster of a journey. Renovation, restoration, re-ordering, exhumations, underpinning, and much more – all part of the ride. The race was on to prevent the chancel from sliding in an easterly direction into the village, and in a southerly direction into the graveyard.
The work comprised of major structural work in the form of underpinning and rebuilding the roof to the chancel; complete new heating system; complete re-ordering and redesign of the Narthex as a community space; installation of a new staircase to the gallery; re-carpeting; new AV and Loop system throughout to allow for wider community activity.
Amazingly for such a small community we were able to secure the funds within 18 months. The building work started on 23rd April 2018 – and officially completed on 6th December 2018.
Below is the journey in pictures highlighting the Before – During – After stages of each area of the church that was affected. Also included are the interpretation boards that are now located within the grounds and were sponsored by Manchester Airport Authority.
This extensive work could not have been undertaken without the support of the following
